Windows Pre-installation Environment (WinPE) is a lightweight version of a Windows operating system used to deploy workstations and servers. Since 2001, Portlock has been busy developing a large set of WinPE utilities for managing and troubleshooting enterprise systems.
The current set of Portlock’s production bootable CDs are based on Windows PE 2.1, which is the lightweight version of Windows Server 2008 (same codebase as Windows Vista SP1).
Note: There is a beta version of Portlock Boot CD based upon WinPE 4.0 which is the pre-installation environment for Windows 8. This version of Portlock Boot CD is available from the beta section of our FTP server.
Note: There is an additional version of Portlock SMART Suite for Windows based upon WinPE 3.0 (build 7100) which is the pre-installation environment for Windows 7 RC. This version of Portlock SMART Suite is available from Portlock License Manager with a valid license.
Our dual-boot CDs offer customers the option to select the 32-bit or 64-bit version at system startup.
Portlock has customized the WinPE environment with a vast set of Portlock utilities, a friendly user interface, and a large library of drivers. Nearly all storage and network devices are supported, making bare-metal and third party device support a breeze.
The following is the current set of features that have been developed for at least one if not both of the Portlock WinPE environments (boot CDs). A complete set of utilities and miscellaneous features can be viewed on the Portlock SMART Suite for Windows web page.
