Portlock Data Recovery Services


For the past 18 months, Portlock has been working with hundreds of customers to recover deleted or damaged NetWare volumes and partitions including NSS and NetWare 6 systems. When an automated tool such as Portlock Storage Manager cannot recover your data, or you just want an expert to do the job for you, give us a call at 406-723-5200.


Remote Data Recovery:

In most cases, we can connect to your server remotely to analyze and repair your system. If your server is connected to the Internet and you can provide us with a remote RCONJ session, we can use Portlock Storage Manager to remotely analyze and repair your system.

In cases where a remote connection is not possible, you will need to ship the drive or a DLT tape image to us. If you are sending a DLT tape image, use the Portlock Storage Manager "Create a sector image of a disk drive" command. We can accept DLT 2000, 4000 and 7000 formatted tapes (DLT 7000 tapes are preferred). For other tape drive formats, call first (we do have almost every tape drive).

  • DOS, PC-DOS and DR-DOS (all versions)
  • NetWare 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x (Traditional and NSS)
  • Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP (FAT, FAT32 and NTFS)

Supported Hardware:

  • Servers: Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM and others
  • Drives: IDE, SCSI, RAID, Fibre Channel

Purchase Data Recovery Services:

Important note: Data Recovery is not a guaranteed service. For some situations, recovery may not be possible.

To initiate a Data Recovery service, please contact the Portlock Sales Department at 406-723-5200. A signed contract, and an upfront payment of $2495 is required before recovery services will commence. This payment is non-refundable and includes 3 hours of data recovery support, and a single copy of Portlock Storage Manager. If additional hours are required to recover lost data, the billing amount will be an additional $500 per hour. Typically, Portlock data recovery service is accomplished in three hours; however, depending on corruption of the data additional time may be required.


All shipping charges are the customer's responsibility. All media, computers and laptops should be put into an anti-static bag and then wrapped in bubble-wrap for protection.  The packing box should be filled with either Styrofoam peanuts or bubble-wrap so that the media is secured and is not bounced around.  The outside of the shipping box should be labeled to indicate fragile contents.

Send a FAX (406-723-5205) with the tracking number, details of the recovery problem and contact information. We will call you upon receipt of your drive. Most Data Recoveries can be accomplished the same or the next day.
