NetWare Data Recovery Tips

Here are some general tips for good practice:

  • Don't panic - most problems usually are easy to correct.

  • Plan your actions Ė understand the implications of what youíre about to do, and donít do anything you cannot undo.

  • Don't attempt data recovery on your original data. Use Portlock Storage Manager to copy the partition or volume to another drive.

  • Don't run VREPAIR on the original volume. Copy the volume and then run VREPAIR on the copied volume.

  • If you have accidentally used the NWCONFIG command "Initialize hard disk," Portlock Storage Manager can recover the partitions and volumes.

  • If you have deleted a DOS, NetWare or NSS partition, Portlock Storage Manager can easily recover the partition.

  • If your hard drive is making unusual noises (clicking, grinding, etc.), you need to immediately turn the system off. Do not use utility software on drives that may have mechanical problems.
